Devon Street Carpark
Infastructure
In support of sustainability improvements throughout the municipality of Maroondah, the Council in conjunction with the Federal Government, invested in a purpose built four level carpark offering 400 free parking spaces, electric vehicle charging stations, and dedicated motorbike parking at Devon Street, Croydon. Other sustainability features include solar power and rainwater collection and re-use.
Located in the heart of the Croydon retail precinct, behind the Croydon Main Street and adjacent to Croydon Station, the carpark is strategically located to provide commuter convenience and safety and reduce the carbon burden on metropolitan Melbourne.
Masterfully designed by MGS Architects, who possess a wealth of infrastructure expertise, Devon Street carpark is both highly functional and attractive as a piece of civic infrastructure. For the outer skin of the building MGS Architects chose KLAY Fusion Old School brick slips as the façade design. Offering the look and feel of bricks without the weight impost, these 10mm thick brick slips ensure structure costs are minimised. Requiring little to no maintenance KLAY Fusion Old School brick slips are non-combustible, UV stable and frost resistant.
The carpark site sits between commercial and residential zoning and, as such, the carpark design needed to complement buildings in both zones. KLAY Fusion Old School became the perfect brick façade cladding mimicking bricks used in residential applications, whilst offering the performance attributes of a commercial cladding system.
MGS chose Fusion Old School with its red and black sintered tonings achieved via the firing process, combined with a profiled perforated aluminium screen system to create a sophisticated building with design longevity.
